As we look to the skies for the imminent release of ‘Piercing Brightness’ the Sci Fi feature film from artist Shezad Dawood. I met with our client Simon Godfrey, Production Designer to find out the truth in true Fox Mulder fashion. He talked but it was obvious he was apart of a bigger conspiracy:

TW: What is the story behind Piercing Brightness?

SG: It is ostensibly the story of a secret cabal of extraterrestrial beings who have been living on earth disguised as human inhabitants yet is also a coded allegory bound up with questions of identity, race, belief and belonging.

TW: Who are the main characters in the film?

SG: The main characters are five aliens and two humans, a solicitor, a cafe worker, a shop owner, two students, and two new arrivals from outer space.

TW: Where was the film shot?

SG: The film was shot entirely in and around Preston Lancashire.

TW What challenges did you face making this film?

SG: The challenges as usual were often based around budget and time but also there was the more interesting challenge of creating environments that would aid and add to the telling of the story. I also wanted and needed to preserve the sense Preston and its identity.

TW: Without giving too much away what moment stands out most whilst making this film that you’re looking forward to seeing on screen?

SG: One of my favourite scenes involves our leading female character that is unaware while in her human form that she is an alien. She hears a band playing (acid mothers temple) and is drawn to them, as she approaches the stage the music heightens and the lights start to pulse and flash until in a crescendo of noise in music and light she stands transfixed in front of the band transported and mesmerised.

Watch this space for a trailer flying over soon!

Thanks Simon!
