April 2013 News Round-Up

Welcome to the April newsletter where we highlight another action-packed month in the business.

Announcements

Far too many R.I.P’s this month: The visual effects godfather and producer- Ray Harryhausen - whose creations made famous the Sinbad films and Jason And The Argonauts, has died aged 92.

Director Bryan Forbes has also sadly departed. He set up Beaver Films with Dickie Attenborough in the 60’s and made some ground breaking British films including The Angry Silence, The League of Gentlemen and Whistle Down the Wind.

 Industry insights

  • Tax breaks have finally kicked in for the UK Film/TV industry. We are expecting an invasion from oversea productions wanting to locate here as well as UK productions not leaving our shores. Work should be flowing – LARGE!
  • Work that challenges your point of view, comes rarely but this one knocked my socks and much more off. The first user-generated, nonprofit pornography site has launched with an online film to debunk the myths of porn and explores the sexual prejudice and taboos around disability.
